Another new year, another new blog post. Blogging has made me feel like time is passing by faster than ever before, as every time when I come back here for a new blog post it’s always been a while since last time I was here. It’s obvious that I’m updating too slowly and I’m getting stressed about my overdue blog post queue is getting longer and longer, therefore, updating more frequently has been one of my new year’s resolutions for 2017.
As the last sunrays of 2016 grazed my skin and melted in the skies bringing a close to summer it brought me black to a time when I was visiting some of my Swedish friends in Linkoping in the late summer. Linkoping is a small city just a few hours bus ride away from Stockholm. Unlike Stockholm, there is not much to do in Linkoping, but if you’re looking for somewhere to experience real Swedish culture and feel the pure Swedish calm, Linkoping is a very nice city to visit.
Linkoping is a great combination of nature and culture. I loved the feeling of calm this city gave me when I was there at the late summer. If it happens that you’re planning to visit Sweden in the summer for culture experiences (The best time to visit Sweden), please do make it to their Midsummer, which happens in late June and it’s one of the most important festivals in Sweden. Since then I have had midsummer parties back in Hong Kong hanging out with lots of Swedish friends.
They were always kind of joking to me saying that I was Swedish too. Oh well, I do really like Swedish culture. The crayfish party in August is another big party that you can’t miss in Sweden during summertime. The three weeks in Linkoping really let me fall in love with this beautiful country and found somewhere I wanted to stay. I miss those delicious traditional Swedish meatballs, backyard BBQ and blood pudding my friend made for me. For the first time I experienced exciting new things such as strawberry picking in a lane on a warm sunny afternoon and kayaking and in late summer. Also, thinking back to those days, we drove through the spectacularly stunning wheat fields framed by traditional Swedish red houses in the background all the while the scene basked in the radiant warm light of a paradoxical bright summer night. All of these memories made that summer one of the best ones I have ever had in my life, a memory brought back to life by the fading summer sun.
For tourist attractions, there are some cool places to check out. First thing you should do when you’re visiting Linkoping is to check out the Swedish Air Force Museum/ Flygvapenmuseum. My friend brought me there on my birthday for some precious private jet shopping. Just kidding, but yes I’ve always been a big fan of aeronautics. Unfortunately I lost all the photos I took at the museum and can’t show you guys. For more things to do in Linkoping, please visit HERE
Breathe in, breathe out; breathe in, breathe out, you will feel the Linkoping calm.
